Whether you've bought your Axolotl from us somewhere else, or you are looking into buying one soon, this page will teach you all you need to know about caring for your Axolotl, also, a little bit about their history, different morphs, and similar species commonly mistaken as Axolotls.
Axolotls emerge out of their eggs at less than half an inch long, and can get up to 18in (9-12in on average). So they go through a variety of different foods, this section will take you through what you should be feeding them at these different stages of life.
Along with 100-1,000 other tiny Axolotls, they come out looking for any kind of moving food. Something like live Baby Brine Shrimp, or live baby Daphnia are easiest to come by. They won't eat anything frozen this young, and will need to be fed 1-3 times a day.
At about 2 weeks they should have developed front legs, and a stronger sense of smell. Meaning they can start to eat frozen foods, if bloodworms are the frozen food of your choice make sure they're on the smaller side.
A month and a half in they've developed completely, now it's just a matter of growing. They should be able to take Axolotl pellets and small chunks of worms, but bloodworms are the most common choice at this size.
Once they reach 4 inches in length (about 2 months old), they'll be ready for Red Wiggler and Earthworm diets. One Red Wiggler or 1/2-1/3 of an Earthworm is enough for daily feedings, pellets can be used in a supplementary diet.
A year to a year and a half Axolotls reach maturity, and now they can take daily Earthworms (in pieces if necessary). After a few years, they start to slow down in feeding, moving, and overall activity, you'll want to feed them only 2-4 times a week.
